LONDON. ZONA 1
Medium
Clay, plaster and acrylic on pallet
Date
April 2023
Size
92 * 66 cm
LONDON. ZONA 1 explores the psychological cost of survival in the centre of a city built on movement, ambition and promise. The work is constructed on a reclaimed wooden pallet - a material that once carried goods, weight and movement through the city, and here becomes a surface for bodies and faces pressed into its skin.
Hundreds of faces emerge, disappear and merge into one another. Some seem almost erased; others break through the surface and turn upwards, resisting disappearance. The crowd becomes both anonymous and intensely personal.
Zona 1 is presented not as a place of arrival, but as a site of pressure: a space where aspiration can become exhaustion, identity can be worn away, and survival depends on the ability to remain visible.
These faces are mine, yours, and those of anyone who has entered the city carrying hope and discovered the cost of holding on to themselves.
